Directional Drilling in Shreveport, Louisiana
A Louisiana directional drilling company for Haynesville gas wells in Caddo, Bossier, DeSoto and Red River parishes.
Geo Mag Technologies provides directional drilling services to Haynesville operators in Shreveport, Louisiana and the parishes around it. Geo Mag is itself a Louisiana company, based in Broussard, so north-west Louisiana is an in-state mobilization rather than a cross-country one.
The company supplies the mud motors, MWD tool and complete bottom hole assembly needed to drill a deviated gas well, and it plans the trajectory beforehand. Its documented field experience nearest to Shreveport is across the state line in East Texas, noted below.

Geo Mag's company presentation documents horizontal gas-unit wells for BPX in Nacogdoches and San Augustine counties, Texas, west of Shreveport. It does not list wells in Louisiana parishes, and it does not state dates.
Drilling the Haynesville from Shreveport
The Haynesville and Bossier shales underlie Caddo, Bossier, DeSoto, Red River, Bienville and Webster parishes and extend west into East Texas. Wells are deep by shale standards, with high bottom-hole temperatures and pressures, and they are drilled as long horizontals from pads. The drilling fluid and the tools have to be selected for heat and pressure first.
On these wells the pulser is often the limiting component. Lost-circulation material, high solids, heat and pressure are what break pulsers, and a survey program that stops at depth is expensive to recover. Annular pressure while drilling is also more than a convenience here, because ECD on an over-pressured, long lateral is a well-control question.

Capabilities for deep, hot gas wells
The Rime slick-hd servo pulser Geo Mag runs uses a rotary shear valve designed for high-solids and high-LCM environments and is rated by its manufacturer to 175 C and 20,000 psi. The pressure-while-drilling tool runs fully integrated in the MWD string, is rated to 175 C, and reports real-time ECD plus kick and influx indications.
The KeyDrill KDU-Mini decoder resolves pulses as low as 1 psi according to its datasheet, which matters when the signal has travelled up a deep standpipe. Geo Mag drills with Bico and Tomahawk mud motors, RSS, Key Drill drilling systems and complete BHA packages, and its MWD fleet is company-owned and repaired in-house.

Positive-pulse MWD tool
Directional, gamma and resistivity configurations
The MWD tool is the instrument that tells the directional driller where the bit is and where it is heading. Survey and tool-face data come up the mud column as pressure pulses, so the trajectory can be corrected while drilling instead of after a trip.
Rime slick-hd servo pulser
Mud-pulse telemetry in high-solids and high-LCM environments
The pulser is the valve that writes downhole data into the mud column. Lost-circulation material, high solids, heat and pressure are what break pulsers; a valve that keeps clearing itself is what keeps the surveys coming.
PWD, annular pressure-while-drilling
Real-time downhole pressure and ECD
Annular pressure while drilling turns equivalent circulating density from a calculation into a measurement. It shows whether the hole is being cleaned, flags kicks and influxes early, and lets the overbalance be held tight without giving up rate of penetration.
KeyDrill KDU-Mini decoding unit
Mud-pulse decoding at the rig floor
Every survey depends on the surface receiver separating a small pressure pulse from pump noise. Deeper wells and PDC bits distort the signal; the lower the pulse a decoder can resolve, the more of the well it can survey reliably.
