Directional Drilling in Nacogdoches, Texas
Directional drilling, MWD/LWD and well planning for East Texas gas wells, in a county where Geo Mag has documented horizontal wells.
Geo Mag Technologies provides directional drilling services in Nacogdoches, Texas and the East Texas gas counties around it. Nacogdoches is one of the few places on this site where Geo Mag can point to documented work: its company presentation lists horizontal gas-unit wells for BPX in Nacogdoches County itself and in neighbouring San Augustine County, with measured depths shown in the field experience table below.
The company supplies the mud motors, MWD tool and complete bottom hole assembly for a deviated well and provides well planning and technical consulting. It mobilizes from Broussard, Louisiana.

Horizontal wells listed in the Geo Mag company presentation, with operator, location, average hole angle and measured depth.
Two of these wells are documented in Nacogdoches County itself; the other three are in neighbouring San Augustine County. All five are gas-unit wells for BPX, as listed in the Geo Mag company presentation, which does not state dates.

East Texas gas drilling around Nacogdoches
The Haynesville and Bossier shales extend from north-west Louisiana into East Texas, and the Texas side of the play includes Nacogdoches, San Augustine, Shelby and Sabine counties among others. The region also carries a long history of conventional gas development in the Cotton Valley and Travis Peak intervals.
Haynesville-type wells are deep, hot and over-pressured compared with most onshore shale plays, and they are drilled as long horizontals. The directional and measurement tools on those wells have to hold their ratings through the vertical and curve and then survey reliably at depth.

Capabilities for deep East Texas horizontals
Geo Mag runs a 1 7/8 in. wireline-retrievable positive-pulse MWD tool with Keydrill and Rime mud-pulse components, chosen in the company's words because they have proven reliable and rugged. The Rime pulser is rated by its manufacturer to 175 C and 20,000 psi; the pressure-while-drilling tool in the same string reports real-time ECD and flags kicks and influxes.
Bico and Tomahawk mud motors, RSS, Key Drill drilling systems and complete BHA packages cover the drilling. The KeyDrill KDU-Mini decodes the surveys at the rig floor and Polaris logs them, with WITS and WITSML delivery to the rig and the operator.

Systems relevant to this region
Positive-pulse MWD tool
Directional, gamma and resistivity configurations
The MWD tool is the instrument that tells the directional driller where the bit is and where it is heading. Survey and tool-face data come up the mud column as pressure pulses, so the trajectory can be corrected while drilling instead of after a trip.
Rime slick-hd servo pulser
Mud-pulse telemetry in high-solids and high-LCM environments
The pulser is the valve that writes downhole data into the mud column. Lost-circulation material, high solids, heat and pressure are what break pulsers; a valve that keeps clearing itself is what keeps the surveys coming.
PWD, annular pressure-while-drilling
Real-time downhole pressure and ECD
Annular pressure while drilling turns equivalent circulating density from a calculation into a measurement. It shows whether the hole is being cleaned, flags kicks and influxes early, and lets the overbalance be held tight without giving up rate of penetration.
KeyDrill KDU-Mini decoding unit
Mud-pulse decoding at the rig floor
Every survey depends on the surface receiver separating a small pressure pulse from pump noise. Deeper wells and PDC bits distort the signal; the lower the pulse a decoder can resolve, the more of the well it can survey reliably.
